Rusmir Halilovic

Rusmir Halilovic (born 5 January 1948) is an active basketball coach with as much as 44 years of experience in various basketball programs and projects.〔http://www.rin.ba/index.php?id=371&jezik=bih〕
==Taking over Yugoslavian NT selections 1981–1985==

After leading Buducnost Podgorica from lower rank to Yugoslavian A1 league,〔KK Budućnost Podgorica〕 on the initiative from the legendary Yugoslavian coach Bogdan Tanjevic in 1981. Halilovic began his work as a professional coach for Yugoslavian Basketball Federation (KSJ – “Kosarkaski Savez Jugoslavije”) in charge of NT cadet and junior selections programs.
Having a degree in physics, during the beginning of the 1980s he revolutionized the process of identifying, educating and developing young prospects of from all around Yugoslavia, using both principles of applied sciences combined with extensive training regime and pioneer usage of the game video analyses. Back then his scouting philosophy was: “Turn over each stone, even the smallest one.”
Being an assistant coach to a future Naismith and FIBA Hall of Fame member Mirko Novosel, Halilovic also got a chance to take over head coaching duties at three games of Yugoslavian senior NT during its American NCAA tour back in 1982. In the initial game during that span Yugoslavian NT led by Drazen Petrovic won the game vs. one of the top ranked NCAA teams of that time, Marquette University led by the future NBA All-Stars Marques Johnson and Glenn “Doc” Rivers.
During 1981., 1982., and 1983. regular American tours Halilovic, along with coaches Tanjevic and Novosel, often met and communicated with the top NCAA coaches such as Dean Smith (North Carolina), Joe B. Hall (Kentucky) and Digger Phelps (Notre Dame). Upon returning to Yugoslavia he used gained experience together with remarks to build an offensive concept which would effectively work against very aggressive defenses.
